How to export a Stripe payout reconciliation report

Download the itemized Stripe CSV that lists every charge, fee, refund, and adjustment inside a payout.

The payout reconciliation report is the file that ties transactions to the payout that paid them out. Stripe's balance summary is a different report. It describes activity in a date range and is the wrong download if you are trying to match one bank deposit.

Itemized payout reconciliation

  1. Sign in to the Stripe Dashboard for the account that received the money.
  2. Open Reports, then Payout reconciliation.
  3. Choose a date range that includes the payout's expected arrival date. A payout on the 3rd often contains charges from before the 3rd, so a range that only covers the arrival day can still be right, but if a deposit is missing, widen the range.
  4. On the payout reconciliation section, download the itemized CSV.

Do not download the summary. The summary has one total per category and no payout id on each transaction, so it cannot be split into deposits.

The itemized file uses columns such as automatic_payout_id, reporting_category, gross, fee, net, and currency. Amounts are in major units (dollars, not cents). Summing net for one automatic_payout_id is the payout amount, as long as the download included every row.

If you start from Balance instead

Balance change from activity can also be exported as an itemized CSV. Include automatic_payout_id if you are choosing columns. Rows that have not been paid out yet have an empty payout id. PayoutPair skips those and tells you how many it skipped. That report often has no separate payout total row. A balanced result then means the rows in the file agree with each other, not that they were checked against an independent payout total.

An older balance history export uses Type, Amount, Fee, Net, and a payout column named Transfer or Payout ID. The payout itself is a row with type payout and a negative amount, because the funds left the Stripe balance. Include that column or the rows cannot be grouped.

What not to upload

The Payments export is one row per charge. It does not carry the payout id in the form these reports use, and PayoutPair will reject it. A summary CSV is rejected for the same reason, with a message that asks for the itemized file.

Exports can include customer email if you add those columns. PayoutPair does not store the file, but you should still treat the CSV as customer data while it is on your computer.
